With no subs available and coming off a grueling 1-0 victory over hosts Russellville on Tuesday, the Todd County Central girls’ soccer team wore down as the match went on in a 6-0 13th-District final loss to Logan County on Thursday.

The Lady Rebels’ bid for a first district title since 2017 falls short, while the Lady Cougars win their second straight and third in four years.

Both regular-season meetings between the teams were 2-0 Logan County wins and they applied pressure from the opening whistle.  Kadyn Costello shot wide on a breakaway just eight and a half minutes in, before netting her first goal of the night in the 14th minute after a Lady Rebel defender slipped trying to clear the ball.

Todd Central’s Malanie Chamberlaine had her shot saved in the 25th minute before Logan County doubled the advantage a short time later when Natalie Cates ran onto a through ball and finished just inside the near post.

The Lady Rebels had a couple of good looks at goal in the last ten minutes of the first half, but Ava Scott’s shot from the top of the 18-yard box and Itzel Salazar’s free-kick were saved by Lady Cougar goalkeeper Brady Alsup.

Costello put the game out of reach early in the second half, finishing off her hat trick with two strikes inside the first ten minutes.

Logan County continued to push forward against the weary Lady Rebels, adding a goal in the 56th minute by Addie Corder and another by Guilia Sperandio with just over six minutes left to play.

Alsup made five saves to earn the shutout for the Lady Cougars, while Samantha Case stopped six shots for the Lady Rebels.

Brianna Shelton provided two assists and Sperandio and Linnea Pitts each had one.

Both teams will take part in next week’s 4th Region tournament.
