There wasn’t much question about whether Marshall County would repeat as girls’ state golf champions this week. Most wondered by how much and would the school produce its first individual champion.
The Lady Marshals shot a two-day score of 614 to beat second-place Madison Central by 38 shots. Marshall County’s score set a new state record, eclipsing the old record of 615 set by Sacred Heart n 2013.
Eighth-grader Trinity Beth made a run at an individual state title but finished in second place. Her two-day score of 146 was five shots behind the winner, Macie Brown of Bullitt East. Beth shot a second-day 1-under-par 71.
Megan Hertter brought home a top-10 finish at nine over par for the two days. She finished in ninth place, 12 shots off the lead and captured her first top-10 finish at state.
Savannah Howell finished just outside the top 10 in 11th place at 11-over par.
Katie Roberts tied for 18th place at 16-over par, and Cecilia Ray tied for 46th place in her first state tournament.
