Crittenden County had never scored 50 points against Trigg County until last year. Now, they’ve done it two years in a row.
The Rockets scored multiple touchdowns in each of the final three quarters to hand the Wildcats a 50-15 loss at Perdue Field on a night when Trigg County celebrated its 1971 and 1972 state championship teams.
Luke Crider and Preston Morgeson did the offensive damage early and subs Gatten Travis and Levi Piper scored late as the Rockets rolled up 553 yards of offense — 276 on the ground and 277 through the air.
After a scoreless first quarter, Morgeson scored on runs of three and one yards in the second quarter for the Rockets. Trigg’s lone score of the first half came on a 50-yard fumble recovery by Kelsey Parham with 8:48 left in the half.
Logan Bailey caught a 12-yard scoring pass from Crider with 5:50 left in the half to give the Rockets a 21-7 advantage by halftime.
The Rockets were able to control possession and ran 12 more plays than Trigg in the half.
Crittenden continued to rip through the Wildcat defense with Crider providing a 7-yard run four minutes into the second half. The Rocket quarterback came into the game with 83 rushing yards but totaled 73 yards on 12 carries Friday.
Crider also got the job done through the air, connecting on 16-of-26 passes for 277 yards.
Travis also doubled his season total in rushing against the Wildcats with 101 yards on 10 carries. He scored on runs of 12 and 52 in the second half. Piper scored Crittenden’s last touchdown on a 5-yard run with 4:20 left.
Trigg’s lone offensive touchdown came inside the final minute when Jacob Wease connected with Tiler Ware on a 26-yard scoring pass.
Wease attempted 40 passes — one of his career-high — and connected on 15 for 173 yards.
Parham led the Wildcats in rushing with 61 yards on 13 carries.
Trigg County was playing without leading rusher Kendric Adams, who suffered a shoulder injury in last week’s loss to Paducah Tilghman. Trigg also lost Dillion Skinner to a shoulder injury early in the game.
The Wildcats were also bothered by a pair of costly first half turnovers that Crittenden turned into touchdowns.
The win is Crittenden’s third straight over Trigg County. Both teams are now 3-4. Crittenden County travels to Fulton County next week. The Wildcats play a district contest at Webster County.
