It will be a Jaggers family reunion for the second year in a row in the Class 3A playoffs 2nd round in Princeton. The Caldwell County Tigers rolled past Edmonson County 37-20 Friday night at Tiger Stadium in a game that was nowhere near as close as the final score would indicate. Josh Jaggers’ LaRue County Hawks won their opening round game over Union County 48-29 to set up the family dividing match next Friday.

Caldwell County opened quick against Edmonson County Friday night. The Tigers got on the board first with 7:02 to go in the first quarter when Joby Jaggers hit DeEric Hollowell with an 8 yard touchdown pass to make it 7-0.

Less than three minutes later, Jaggers threw his 2nd touchdown pass of the night, this time a 25 yard strike to Trace Olden to extend the lead to 14-0, with just under five minutes to go in the opening quarter. That would not be the last time the Tigers would score in the opening quarter, as Jameer Riley found paydirt on a ten yard run with 11 seconds left to make the lead 21-0.

The steamroller continued early in the second quarter. This time is was special teams, as Gabe East returned a punt for a score with 10:27 to go in the first half, pushing the lead on out to 28-0. Just 25 seconds later, the Tigers added a safety to make it 30-0. Caldwell County would add another first half score to make it 37-0. Edmonson County managed to get to the end zone before the half to make the lead 37-6, but by that point, it was just a matter of playing out the second half.

The Wildcats added a couple of scores against younger Tiger players to make the margin a bit more respectable, but Edmonson County was never really in the contest.

Caldwell County improves to 8-3 with the victory and will host LaRue County next Friday night at Tiger Stadium in a regional semifinal. Last year, the Tigers won the game by the score of 40-27.
