A strong second quarter performance led the Bowling Green Purples to a 4th Region win at Todd County Central Friday night. The Purples outscored the Rebels 24-10 in the quarter on their way to an 84-53 win in Elkton.
The Rebels battled early to make a game of it. However, Bowling Green’s defense was able to limit the Rebels to only two field goals in the opening stanza, as the Purples led 21-14 after one. Todd Central was able to stay in the game early with their free throw shooting, as they hit 10 of 14 at the line in the 1st quarter.
The Purples defense clamped down even tighter in the 2nd quarter. Bowling Green was able to limit the Rebels to one made field goal, as they pulled out to a 45-24 halftime lead.
Todd Central tried one last time to get back in the game in the 3rd quarter. The Rebels outscored the Purples 16-10 in the period to draw within shouting distance at 55-40. However, the rally was not to be. Bowling Green’s offense erupted for 29 points in the final quarter to put the game away.
Todd Central was led by John Calvery with 15 points. Austin Rager was the only other Rebel to reach double figures with 11 points.
Trevor Dennis paced the Purples’ attack with 22 points. Conner Cooper and Turner Buttry added 12 points apiece.
