After an eight-day layoff, Trigg County played well in their return to the court Saturday but fell to Ohio County 64-50 in the Toyota of Hopkinsville Classic at Christian County.
The Wildcats saw games with Calloway County Tuesday (scheduling conflict) and Crittenden County Friday (weather) postponed.
Trigg played well early, leading 9-6 after one quarter and extending the lead to 17-10 with 3:37 left in the half. The Wildcats’ season-long problem with turnovers appeared as Trigg had four consecutive turnovers that sparked a 14-0 Ohio County run. The Wildcats were able to stave off the Eagles and trailed 24-19 at halftime.
The Wildcats got to within 32-31 on a Kendric Adams bucket with 2:51 left in the third quarter but would get no closer.
Leading 40-35 after three quarters, the Eagles began the final frame with a 16-2 run to go up 56-37. They would lead by as many 20 before the Wildcats chipped into the deficit late.
Trigg County turned the ball over 17 times that led to 19 Ohio County points. As a result, the Wildcats managed just 43 shots, hitting 44-percent.
Ohio County shot 57-percent in the second half and 50-percent for the game. They had nine turnovers that led to eight Trigg points.
Adams was the lone Wildcat in double-figures with 27 points and eight rebounds. Gavin Grubbs added nine points and five assists. Kyron Grubbs and Khyran Vaughn each scored four points.
Ohio County (11-8) got 16 points from Hunter Pharis and 15 from Trey Lewis.
Trigg County (6-11) will return to the court Tuesday at Hopkins County Central.
