Fort Campbell Takes Second Place at First Girls’ Wrestling State Tourney

Fort Campbell took second place in the first-ever Girls’ State Wrestling Tournament sponsored by the Kentucky Wrestling Coaches Association Saturday at Tates Creek High School in Lexington.

Jasmine Ward became Fort Campbell’s first wrestling state champion in 29 years Saturday.

Jasmine Ward became Fort Campbell’s first individual state champion in 29 years when she won the 126-pound class. She pinned all three of her opponents, including East Jessamine’s Makayla Gilbert in the championship match.

Fort Campbell’s last individual state champion was Jovanie Marshall in the 1990 boys’ state tournament in the 145-pound class.

Freshman Jordan Wilson finished second in the 170-pound class. She pinned her first two opponents before falling to Woodford County’s Koral Tipton in the championship match.

Emma Syester finished third in the 220-pound class. After losing in the semifinals, she battled back with a pair of pins to grab third.

Annalynn Rakett finished fourth in the 120-pound class. She won two matches on the day before falling in the third place match.

Katie Guevara-Maldonado took fifth place in the 113-pound class. After dropping her first match, she worked her way back through the brackets to win three of her final four matches for a fifth place finish.

September Snyder finished sixth in the 106-pound class. She picked up three wins on the day bit was forced to forfeit the fifth place match.

Ella Plumb didn’t place at 113 pounds but did win two matches on the day.

Harrison County won the first-ever girls’ state team title with 136 points. Fort Campbell was second with 101 points.
