Caldwell County Stays Hot With Walk-Off Win Over Trigg County

5-16-rennison

Allie Felker’s walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning sent Caldwell County to their 14th win in their past 16 games – a 1-0 shutout of Trigg County Thursday in Princeton.

With one out in the seventh inning, Mashea Glover lifted a pop fly in short centerfield that caromed off the glove of Trigg County’s Logan Darnall. Glover made it to second base on the play. After Katie Franklin sacrificed Glover to third, Felker sent an 0-1 pitch into left field for the game-winning single.

The contest featured a pitcher’s duel between two of the region’s best – Caldwell’s Franklin and Trigg County’s Hannah Colbert. Both pitchers allowed just three hits. Franklin struck out 13 and walked one, while Colbert struck out five and didn’t issue any walks.

In addition to her game-winner, Felker added a second inning double but was doubled off second base two batters later to end the threat.

Trigg’s best chance to score came in the sixth inning when Phelan Dossett reached on a bunt single. She stole second with one out but was thrown out trying to steal third one batter later.

Colbert finished with two hits for Trigg County, who has scored two runs in their last four games heading into next week’s district tournament. The Lady Wildcats (16-15) will play Crittenden County Monday.

Caldwell County (16-10) has won nine straight games ahead of Friday’s home contest with Marshall County. The Lady Tigers have given up two or fewer runs in seven of those nine wins.
