Former Hopkinsville Tiger Jon Beymer was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 29th round of the Major League Baseball Draft Wednesday.
Beymer, a sophomore, had a 2.18 ERA in 19 games for Wabash Valley in 2019, striking out 66 batters in 41 innings. Wabash Valley was one of the top junior college baseball programs in America in 2019.
Beymer is the second Hopkinsville High player selected by the Royals in recent years. Kansas City selected Justin Hageman in the 32nd round of the 2010 draft.
He is also the third Hopkinsville player taken in the draft in the past decade, joining Hageman and 2016 Mr. Baseball Easton McGee, who was taken in the fourth round of the MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays.
