It was a familiar chorus Saturday afternoon for the Christian County Colonels in their second game of the day at the Boots and Butts Soccer Classic at the Stadium of Champions. The Colonels got out to an early lead against Apollo, only to see the Eagles hit them with a scoring blitz over the rest of the half and then cruise on to the 10-1 win.
In their first game of the day against Campbell County, the Colonels got out to a 1-0 lead, with the Camels then roaring back in the early part of the second half of the match. Against Apollo, the scoring wave overwhelmed the Colonels a bit earlier.
Christian County started quickly as the match got underway. Benito Rubio scored at the 1:30 mark to give the Colonels an early 1-0 lead. The lead held up until the 18:00 mark when the wave started, and the Colonels quickly found themselves in deep water.
The Eagles scored at 18:00, 19:30, 21:00, 27:00, 31:00, and 32:00, and before you could slurp down a drink from the concession stand, Apollo had a 6-1 lead.
The scoring blitz continued in the second half as the Eagles scored at 56:00, 68:00, 72:00, and 76:00, to push the score out to 10-1.
Harrison Bowman led the way for Apollo with four goals. Justin Gillam added three.
