Ever since they were knocked out of the 8th District tournament in the semifinals in 2018, the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers had set their goal as not letting that happen again in 2019. Behind their defense, which has been exceptional the last half of the season, and a suddenly revitalized offense, the Lady Tigers are back in the district championship game once again.

Behind two goals from Keeli Miles, the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers knocked off the Fort Campbell Falcons 5-1 Tuesday evening in an 8th District semifinal at the Stadium of Champions. The 5-1 score was the exact same as the last time the two teams met back in August.

Hoptown got on the boards quickly against the Lady Falcons. A goal just four minutes in put the Lady Tigers up 1-0. At the 13:00 mark, Abby Moss got open on the right hand side and then crossed a shot into the left side of the net to extend the lead to 2-0.

Keeli Miles got an open look and drilled a shot on the right side at the 31:30 mark to push the Hopkinsville lead out to 3-0, which is where the margin would be at the half.

Miles would find the net again at the 48:30 mark to extend the lead to 4-0.

The Lady Falcons would avoid the shutout when Kaitlyn Cervantes scored at the 67:30 mark to cut the lead to 4-1. However, no second half rally would be forthcoming.

Sarah Johnston would break away to score an insurance goal at the 75:00 to make the score 5-1.

The win, which was Hoptown’s sixth in their last eight matches, moves the Lady Tigers to 11-8-1 on the season and moves them into the 8th District championship game Tuesday evening against University Heights.

Fort Campbell finishes the season at 11-7-0.
