The UHA Blazers two game winning streak came to an abrupt end Saturday night. Just 24 hours after picking up a solid win over tournament host Somerset, the Blazer offense struggled from the get go, as UHA fell to Beech High School 69-44.

The Beech defense caused UHA problems from the very beginning. Beech limited University Heights to just 8 points in the opening quarter, six of them from Will Bryan, as the Blazers fell behind 13-8.

The Blazers fought to hang in the game in the second quarter. While their offense continued to struggle, the defense did enough to still have them in the thick of things at the half, trailing 25-18.

Beech’s Jyquale Matthews and Kaleb Powell then settled the issue coming out of the locker room in the second half. The duo combined to score 20 points as Beech blew the lead out to 50-29.

Several games this season, the Blazers have fallen behind by big margins, only to rally and get back in the game. This night, there would be no such rally, as Beech cruised on out to the final 25 point margin.

Will Bryan was the only UHA player to reach double figures with 13 points. D.J. Quarles had 9 points, while K.J. Crump added eight.

Kaleb Powell led the way for Beech with 19 points. Jyquale Matthews finished with 14.

The loss drops UHA’s record to 4-7.
