Todd County Central will hire Josh Robins as their next football coach. The former Fort Campbell skipper confirmed the news to YourSportsEdge.com Monday evening.
Robins resigned as Falcon football coach at the end of December. Fort Campbell was 4-27 in three seasons with Robins as head coach. The Falcons missed the playoffs in his first two seasons but a win over Ballard Memorial during the 2019 season made them eligible for the Class 2A playoffs. They lost to Mayfield 56-13.
Fort Campbell was not been able to replicate the same success in Class 3A that they enjoyed in winning three straight Class 2A state titles from 2007-09. However, the move to Class 2A in 2019 did net them their only district win in Robins’ three seasons.
Robins came to Fort Campbell in 2017 after five seasons as defensive coordinator at Clarksville Northwest. Robins is a U.S. Army veteran who played his high school football in Simpsonville, South Carolina. At Fort Campbell, the football program saw an increase in roster numbers and weight room work.
He will replace Darrell Keith as Rebel football coach. Keith resigned last month to take a head coaching job near Knoxville, Tenn. He was 11-11 in two seasons as Rebel skipper, leading Todd County to their second winning season in three years. Keith is credited with turning the football culture around in Elkton, both in the school and the community which was a drawing point for Robins.
“I remember being there (for a game) last year, and the support was great. It’s a great group of kids, and the administration in great,” Robins said.
