Short Handed Lady Lyons Fall Late at Union County

Despite being down two integral players, the Lyon County Lady Lyons still nearly picked up a nice road win Friday night. Even without Cathryn Brown and Gracen Wynn available, the Lady Lyons were within four points after three quarters at Union County, only to see the Bravettes pull away late to get the 54-40 win.

Early on, it looked as if it would be an easy night for the Bravettes. Union County’s defense limited Lyon County to 7 first quarter points, as the Bravettes rolled out to a 21-7 lead. Madison Morris helped get Union County off to the good start with seven points in the quarter.

In the second quarter, it Lyon County’s turn to crank up the defense. The Lady Lyons limited Union County to just six points in the quarter, as they cut the lead to 27-20 at the half. Calista Collins had 8 points as a part of the Lyon County rally.

The Lady Lyon defense kept the heat on coming out of the break. Lyon County held Union County to just seven points in the third quarter, as the Lady Lyons cut the lead down to just four points at 34-30 going into the fourth quarter.

Emily Hibbs and Madison Morris then took over the game for Union County in the final quarter. The two combined for 18 points, as Union County pulled away to pick up the 14 point win.

Lyon County was led by Calista Collins, who finished with 23 points. Rose Smith was the only other Lady Lyon to reach double figures with 11. Kayden Watts added five points.

Madison Morris had 20 points for the Bravettes. Emily Hibbs chipped in with 15 points. Mollie Morris also reached double figures with 10 points.

The Lady Lyons fall to 12-15 with the loss, while Union County improves to 11-11.
