FLASHBACK – Christian County Wins First Sweet 16 Title

Nine years ago today on March 19, 2011, Christian County knocked off Rowan County 65-63 in double overtime to win the school’s first-ever boys’s basketball state title.  The win came hours after the Colonels beat Eastern 49-46 in the semifinals.

Veontae Lewis scored on the baseline off a pass from Sweet 16 MVP Anthony Hickey for the game winner.  Hickey, Lewis, and Donovan Kates were all named to the Sweet 16 All-Tournament Team.

Christian County finished the season 25-9 and were the Eighth District runner-up to University Heights.  The Colonels beat Livingston Central (88-51), Henderson County (80-60), and Madisonville (76-67) to win the region title.

At Rupp Arena, Christian County beat Shelby Valley (83-40), Lexington Catholic (67-62), Eastern (49-46), and Rowan County (65-63) to win the state title.
