Changes to the format of the 2020 state volleyball tournament were among the actions taken by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Board of Control during its virtual September meeting Wednesday morning. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the volleyball state tournament will feature a sectional round during this year’s tourney.
However, the sectional round may not necessarily include border regions taking on each other. The Board of Control voted to divide the states up into regions 1-8 and regions 9-16. Within those divisions, there would be a blind draw to determine the sectional pairings. Thus, the Region 2 winner could play anywhere from Paducah to Williamstown.
The quarterfinal round would then be played on one day at one location, with the semifinals and the championship round to be played the next day.
