Lyons Rally Past Graves 65-60 to Improve to 7-0

Lyon County rallied from eight points down in the third quarter to remain unbeaten on the season, but got a big challenge from Graves County Friday night.

Travis Perry scored 23 points and Jackson Shoulders added 19 as the Lyons turned back the Eagles 65-60 at Jason White Gymnasium in Eddyville.

Lyon is now 7-0.

Graves (3-3) got a big boost before the game when Illinois transfers Drew Thompson and Markus Isaiah were ruled eligible by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.

Thompson, a senior guard from Effingham, led Graves with 26 points and helped the Eagles lead for much of the contest.

Isaiah, a senior guard from Centralia who is also a standout football player, had nine in his debut on the hardcourt for Graves.

The visiting Eagles led 13-6 early in the game before teams got to halftime deadlocked at 32-32.

Graves built an eight-point lead at 46-38 midway through third quarter.

Lyon trailed 51-48 entering the final period, but outscored the Eagles 17-9 over the final 8 minutes.

Once the Lyons pulled ahead, they were able to maintain the advantage at the free throw line. Lyon was 16 of 20 at the stripe in the contest and made eight of nine in the fourth quarter.

Nick Whalin added 14 points for the Lyons, including two big free throws with 22 seconds to play to give Lyon some breathing room at 64-60.

Mason Grant added 12 points for Graves, which made its first visit ever to Lyon County.

The Lyons will face another 1st Region team Saturday night when they travel to Calloway County.
