The Todd County Central girls’ basketball team slipped to 0-2 in 13th-District play with a 43-28 setback at Logan County on Friday night. The Lady Rebels failed to break double digits in any quarter on their way to their second loss in a row to sit at 3-5 overall.
The Lady Rebels started brightly and led 6-2 after Abby Williams scored down low midway through the first quarter. After a bucket by the Lady Rebels’ Lucy Chester, Kadyn Costello answered ahead of the buzzer to pull the Lady Cougars to within a basket at 8-6 after one.
Todd Central managed only 6 points in the second quarter and Logan County took advantage to swing the game. The Lady Cougars nudged in front in the opening minutes on two free throws by Costello and led 11-8 after she scored on a putback a short time later.
Alexis Taylor scored on a jumper to pull the Lady Rebels back to within a point at 13-12, but Logan County ended the last two minutes of the half on a 7-2 run for a 6-point edge at the break.
Logan County continued to pull away behind 6 third-quarter points by Abby Hinton and led by double digits inside the final minute of the frame. Chester hit one of two free throws to cut the Lady Cougar cushion to 10, but Todd Central trailed 33-21 with a quarter to play.
A Williams 3-pointer, the Lady Rebels only triple of the night, had them within striking distance of the Lady Cougars early in the fourth. However, Logan County’s Hinton answered with a deep ball of her own, and the Lady Rebels never got closer than 11 the rest of the way.
The Lady Rebels’ scheduled game with visiting Cloverport on Saturday has been canceled, so their next outing with be a trip to Calloway County on Monday.
