Crittenden County came into the 2020-21 basketball season as one of the most experienced squads returning from last year. That experience was on full display Tuesday as seniors Gabe Mott and Tyler Boone combined for 16 fourth quarter points in their 75-69 win at Trigg County.
Boone, who has committed to play football at Murray State, and Mott combined for 46 of Crittenden County’s 75 points in the game.
The back and forth contest was ultimately decided in the final quarter. The Rockets ended the third quarter on an 8-2 run to grab a 50-47 lead.
With 5:48 left and Crittenden leading 52-49, Rocket big man Preston Turley picked up his fifth foul. Trigg’s Kendric Adams was on the receiving end of the Turley foul and had to leave the game briefly with a cut above his eye.
Trigg tied the game on a Tyler Ahart 3-pointer, but the Rockets ran off six straight points, capped by a Mott bucket with 4:19 left.
Crittenden built its lead to 62-55 before Tae Thompson answered with a 3-pointer. Crittenden was called for an in-bounds violation and a subsequent technical foul. Trigg used the swing as part of a 9-2 run to tie the game at 64 with 2:41 left.
Mott and Boone accounted for the Rocket back and forth with Trigg, who tied the game at 69 with 1:10 left.
Preston Morgeson buried the go-ahead 3-pointer for Crittenden with 35 seconds left. Trigg missed two 3-pointers and turned the ball over on its next three possession, and Crittenden hit some free throws for the final margin.
Mott and Boone each scored 23 points. Morgeson, who had three of Crittenden’s eight 3-pointers, added 11 points.
De’Von Ladd led Trigg County with 24 points. Kendric Adams tossed in 14 points for the Wildcats, who wrapped up a six-day, five-game stretch with a 3-2 record.
Trigg County will host Lyon County Friday at Wildcat Gym.
