Jiles Wyatt was afraid last spring’s COVID-19 shutdown of sports would affect his season as well. The University Heights Academy senior was relieved that golf was the first sport to return to play over the summer and into the fall high school season.

The constant play allowed Wyatt to hone his golf game which culminated Friday by him signing to play at Centre College in Danville.

Wyatt is the second UHA golfer in as many years to sign to play in college, joining Weston Wood who plays for Brescia University.

Wyatt was an All-Region selection in 2019 and 2020 after finishing as the All-A region runner-up in September.

He finished fourth at both the Christian County and Union County Invitationals early in the season and was 11th at the Marshall County Invite.

He qualified for the state tournament as a junior with a third-place finish at the region tourney.

The move to college will be a little easier for Wyatt as he will be joined at Centre by Hopkinsville golfer James Folz.  The two are good friends who grew up together on golf courses in Hopkinsville.

Wyatt is undecided on his future but said he is leaning toward dentistry or the legal profession.
