Coming to Myrtle Beach in February is not something everyone can do or may even want to do. However, this is our fifth straight year to come to the beach in February and we hope to do it many, many more years. It’s still a lot warmer here than in Kentucky. Even in February, there is still a beach to enjoy for runs and walks with every few other people on the beach. And there is still seafood — and a lot of it.
What I really like, though, is that I seem to always find something new like I did this week. I’ve certainly been to Dave & Buster’s before with my grandchildren. I knew it had plenty of arcade and video games my grandchildren really liked.
What I didn’t really know is that Dave & Buster’s is a terrific spot to eat — or at least the one in Myrtle Beach is.
Front desk personnel at the resort where we are staying recommended giving it a try. I thought that probably meant a really good hamburger or hotdog. Maybe even specialty pizza.
Karrie, the assistant general manager, told me I needed to raise my expectations when we got to Dave & Buster’s, which has far more seating for dining than I had ever noticed.
She suggested pretzel dogs for an appetizer and then pointed out that the All-American cheeseburger, chicken avocado club, and fire-grilled salmon were her favorites. Our waitress, Michelle, was big on the salmon.
First, I had no idea Dave & Buster’s would have salmon — or a chef. Second, I’ve learned when the waitress makes a recommendation, pay attention.
Let me tell you, the salmon was GREAT. It came with seasoned green beans and jasmine rice. Even better was the Cajun butter on the salmon that made the Cajun spices on the salmon that much better. It was also a man-sized portion.
Naturally, had to also try the pretzel dogs, and let me just tell you the mustard made at Dave & Buster’s sizzles. Just the right touch of habanero to make it spicy and great with the mini pretzel dogs.
For dessert the cinnamon sugar churros filled with either chocolate or caramel — and you got six of them — were warm and delightful.
How good was Dave & Buster’s dining? We are going back again and at this time of year is was pandemic safe because so few people were there and it was easy to social distance. Plus every staff member and patron had on masks — something that seems to be the norm for Myrtle Beach.
So when you visit Myrtle Beach and think of dining, maybe give Dave & Buster’s a try. You might be as surprised as I was in a very good way and then you can also a few games of chance or skill before you head back out for a walk on the beach as I did.
