It was an impressive way to open the season for Christian County sophomore Karlee Crick Friday afternoon. Crick blasted a grand slam and had seven RBIs on the day, while her teammate Riley Hancock pitched a three-hit shutout as the Lady Colonels pounded out ten runs to roll past Madisonville-North Hopkins 10-0 in five innings.

Hancock got off to a bit of a bumpy start in the top of the first. Madisonville got back-to-back-to-back one-out singles, however, Pickle Winkler was able to throw out Kennedy Justice as she attempted to score on the third of the base hits for the second out of the inning, and that would be the last time the Lady Maroons threatened.

After the first inning, Hancock only allowed one runner to reach base, and that came in the third inning when she hit Zoe Davis.

Christian County would get all the offense they needed in the bottom of the first inning. Pickle Winker led off the inning with a triple and then scored on a ground ball. Reni Shemwell would leave the park in right field with a two-out home run to make it 2-0.

The Lady Colonels would blow the game open in the bottom of the third. Christian County loaded the bases on a single, an error, and a walk. Karlie Crick would then hit a scorching line drive over the left-field fence for a grand slam to make it 6-0.

Crick would nearly leave the park again in the bottom of the 4th inning when she bounced one off the fence in right-center for a two-run double to extend the lead to 8-0. Gracie Harned then drove in Crick’s courtesy runner with an RBI single to make it 9-0.

Christian County would end the game when Crick came through again in the bottom of the 5th with a two-out RBI single to enact the ten-run rule.

Crick had a spectacular game for the Lady Colonels, going 3-4, with a grand slam, a double, and seven RBI’s. Pickle Winkler ended up 3-4, with three runs scored. Reni Shemwell finished her day at 1-4, with a home run, an RBI, and two runs scored. Seven different Lady Colonels had a base hit in the game as Christian County rocked Lady Maroon pitching for 12 hits over the five innings.

Riley Hancock finished the game in the circle going five innings, giving up no runs on just three hits, walking none, while striking out four.
