A perfect day for softball Friday for the Christian County Lady Colonels, and we’re not just talking about the weather. The Lady Colonels came up with three wins during the first day at the Grayson County Spring Break Bash.
Christian County began the day with a 9-6 win over Muhlenberg County. The Lady Colonels scored in each of their first three at-bats and then held off the Lady Mustangs for the win. Christian County scored three in the first, two in the second, and three more in the third to take an 8-0 lead after three innings.
Muhlenberg County scored in the fourth, fifth, and sixth inning, but could not manage to find a way to come all the way back.
Pickle Winkler was 2-3 with a triple, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Gracie Harned finished 3-4 with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored. Riley Hancock was 2-4 with a pair of RBIs.
Hancock went all seven innings in the circle to get the win, giving up just three earned runs on ten hits, striking out six, and walking three.
In the second game of the day, the Lady Colonels used a five-run fifth inning to overcome an early one-run deficit and take down Logan County 7-4. Both teams had scored in their first at-bat in the game, with the Lady Cougars taking the early 3-2 lead. Christian County took advantage of a Logan County error and three walks during their big inning.
Logan County had a rally going in the top of the 7th. The Lady Cougars scored once to trim the lead to 7-4, but had a baserunner thrown out trying to get an extra base on a base hit to effectively end the threat.
Reni Shemwell ended up 2-4 with a run scored. Shemwell also drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Aalaisha McGregor was 1-2 with two RBIs. Seven different Lady Colonel batters had hits in the game.
Gracie Harned went the distance in the circle, giving up four earned runs, on 12 hits, striking out four, while walking only one.
The Lady Colonels closed out their day Friday by routing Spencer County 19-3 in a four-inning contest. Christian County scored eight runs in the top of the first and never looked back. They would add five runs in the second and six more in the top of the 4th.
Kaleigh Shaw led the offensive attack for Christian County, going 1-3 with 3 RBIs, and two runs scored. Karlee Crick and Tenley Gilbert had two RBIs each for the Lady Colonels.
Christian County scored their 19 runs on only six hits. The Lady Colonels took advantage of six Spencer County errors and 12 walks.
Gracie Harned pitched all four innings for Christian County, giving up one earned run on five hits, striking out three, while walking two.
With the three wins, Christian County improved to 5-1 on the season.
