The Christian County Colonels had their bats revved up and ready to go Saturday. The Colonels scored in every inning as they cruised to a 19-9 win over Hopkins County Central on Senior Day.
After Hopkins Central scored a pair of runs in the top of the first, the Colonels got going and got going in a hurry. The Colonels roughed up Storm starter Tanner Edwards, who was taken out of the game in the first without getting an out. The first six Colonel batters reached base on a hit batter, three walks, and two singles.
A Storm error and two more singles, and Christian County had taken a 6-2 lead after one.
Each team scored a run in the second to make it 7-3. After the Storm plated two in the top of the third, Christian County got the offense revved up again. The Colonels used five hits, two of them for extra bases to score four runs in the bottom of the third and push the lead out to 11-5. The big hits in the inning came from Broden Kellum, who drove in two runs with a single, and Chance Henderson, who had an RBI single.
The Colonels kept things rolling along by adding four more runs in the bottom of the 4th inning to extend the lead. A Storm error and a hit batter to the first two batters set the stage for a big inning. Chance Henderson drove in two runs and Preston Phan drove in another during the inning as Christian County moved out to a 15-5.
Central rallied for four runs in the top of the 5th to cut the lead to 15-9. Josh Snorton came back with an RBI double in the bottom of the inning to make it 16-9.
After shutting down the Central bats for just the second time of the game in the top of the sixth inning, the Colonels then closed out the game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. George Forrest and Elijah Underhill closed out the effort with back-to-back RBI singles for the ten-run win.
Chance Henderson had a monster day for Christian County, going 5-5, with 6 RBIs and a run scored. Elijah Underhill was 4-5, with 2 RBIs and three runs scored. Preston Phan, George Forrest, Broden Kellum, and Josh Snorton all had two hits for the Colonels. Snorton also scored four runs on the afternoon.
In addition to his big day at the plate, Henderson closed out the game on the mound for the Colonels, going 1 1/3-innings, giving up no runs on no hits, striking out two, and walking one.
The Colonels improve to 7-16 on the season. They get back to action Tuesday when they host McCracken County.
