2nd Region doubles champions, Caldwell’s Jordan and Ryan Hammett, cruised to a first-round win in the KHSAA State Tennis Tournament at the Top Seed Tennis Club in Lexington on Tuesday, before a valiant effort fell short in the second round.
The Caldwell duo dropped only two games in their opener, knocking off Knott County Central’s Equan Branham and Joseph Honeycutt 6-2, 6-0 to move into a second-round matchup with the bracket’s fifth-seeded team.
Central Hardin’s Keegan Christensen and Jacob Jiranek weren’t troubled in their opener, winning 6-0, 6-0 over Xavier Glauber and Mitchell Pickett of Bullitt East. The Hammett brothers gave a good accounting of themselves against the Bruins combo, falling 6-2, 6-2 to end their tourney run.
Christensen and Jiranek advance to face Greenwood’s James Chen and Dylan Dethridge on Wednesday.
