Princeton is joining the disc golf craze, thanks to the efforts of a local church group.

Northside Baptist Church is home to a recently-opened nine-hole disc golf course on the church’s property just off of Old Madisonville Road.

“We actually got the idea for a disc golf course about four years ago,” said organizer Rhett Miller, who helped lay out the course and install the baskets. “Our men’s group was trying to decide, what can we do as a gift to the community. And this is what we came up with.

“Just as God gave us the gift of Jesus Christ, we need to be giving as well. And this is our gift.”

The course is open to the public and Miller says disc golfers may play anytime there’s daylight. However, he did add that the church would prefer that no one play during church services on Sunday because the parking lot is needed for churchgoers.

The first hole begins just a step or two off the church’s parking lot on the Old Madisonville Road side of the complex and plays toward Young Street. The course winds through the property behind the Caldwell County Bus Garage before finishing right back near the parking lot.

Miller said the church had about $3,500 in the course so far and that further improvements, like signage and scorecards, are planned.

“We’ve already had a lot of people play it,” said Miller. “People love it. We’ve got people playing it all the time.”

All of the holes play as par-3s.

Miller, who is also Caldwell County High School’s girls’ soccer coach, said the course was designed for soccer golf, or footgolf, as well, with holes under the baskets.

Miller pointed out that many communities in the area already had disc golf facilities and that it was time Princeton had its own course.

“We just want the public to come out, play as much as they want, and enjoy the course.”
