Wildcats Blanked by Murray in Season Opener

8-10-jimenez

Caden Cain had bookend goals for Murray as they opened the 2021 soccer season with a 5-0 win at Trigg County Monday. It was the first matchup between the schools in six years.

Trigg’s defense, which has struggled at times in preseason matches, played much better Monday.  Neither team could dent the scoreboard until Cain found the net midway through the first half.

Trey Boggess added Murray’s second goal in the 31st minute with the 2-0 score holding up by halftime.

After a quick goal four minutes into the second half, Dylan McCallon put the Tigers ahead 4-0 in the 60th minute.

Murray rounded out the scoring when Cain scored his second goal in the game’s waning minutes.

Trigg County got some good looks at scoring in the second half but was turned away in front.

Despite some injuries that had the Wildcats down three starters, Monday’s outcome was a stark improvement from an 8-0 scrimmage loss to Calloway County the previous week.

The Wildcats will travel to Paducah Tilghman Thursday.
