Coach Katie Covington enters her 1st season with the Todd County Central Lady Rebels after the team posted a 5-14 record in 2016, including a 4-6 mark in the region and an even 3-3 in district play. Covington was a player during her time as a student at Todd County Central, and was an assistant coach with the team last season. After beating Franklin-Simpson 2-1 to punch their ticket to the 4th Region tournament, the Lady Rebels lost 3-1 to Logan County in the 13th District championship. Todd County Central scored 34 goals and allowed 71, with its season coming to an end with a 10-0 loss to Greenwood in the regional quarterfinals.
As the Lady Rebels get set to begin the 2017 season, they will need to replace five seniors, including All 13th District team selection, midfielder/defender Alex Campbell. However, much of the scoring returns in All 13th District team member and leading scorer, senior Alexis O’Daniel. O’Daniel posted 17 goals and 5 assists, putting her in a tie for the team assist lead with returning junior, Madelynn Drummond. Drummond also chipped in 10 goals, good enough for 2nd on the team. All 13th District goalkeeper, Addye Sawyers, also returns after keeping 4 clean sheets in 2016.
TCCHS opens its 2017 season on the road at Grayson County. The two teams did not play the previous year. The Lady Rebels competed in the All “A” Tournament in 2016, losing to Owensboro Catholic, and will enter the competition again, but the date and opponent have not been released. Todd County is not competing in any in-season tournaments in the upcoming season.
