Just three days out from the 2017 season-opener at Miami (OH) Best Western Sycamore Inn Invitational, WKU Volleyball head coach Travis Hudson and student-athletes Rachel Anderson, Alyssa Cavanaugh and Sydney Engle met with the media to preview the upcoming campaign.
Last week, the Lady Toppers were announced as the Conference USA preseason favorites in the annual preseason coaches poll. Alyssa Cavanaugh was tabbed the Preseason Player of the Year and was joined on the Preseason All-Conference team by fellow teammates Jessica Lucas and Rachel Anderson.
This weekend, WKU Volleyball opens play in Oxford, Ohio, matching up against Southern Illinois and Miami (OH) on Friday before closing tournament play with a contest against Northern Arizona. The Red and White return to The Hill for their home opener with Tennessee State on Tuesday. The Lady Toppers are coming off their 15th-straight 25-win season in 2016 while stretching their 30-win season streak to three-consecutive campaigns with a 30-3 record.
The Lady Toppers secured their sixth-straight regular-season conference championship with an unblemished 14-0 record in Conference USA action and remained perfect by winning the C-USA Tournament for the third-straight year as well. The tournament championship marked the Red and White’s 10th NCAA Tournament appearance since 2002 and the sixth appearance in the past seven seasons.
