Trigg County clobbered a short-handed Clarksburg, TN team 92-17 Friday to claim fifth place in the KME Classic at Wildcat Gym. The Wildcats will go into Christmas with a 5-4 record.
Trigg was looking to rebound quickly after a 46-42 loss to St. Mary 18 hours earlier knocked them into the fifth place game. The Wildcats scored the first 23 points of the game and led 26-2 after one quarter.
Senior guard Micah Brown, who has been mired in a season-long shooting slump, broke out to knock down seven 3-pointers and score a career-high 25 points. He also had five steals and four rebounds.
Devron Triplet had the hot hand early, hitting a trifecta of 3-pointers in the first quarter and finishing with 15 points. KiRome Bingham, who missed the previous two games due to sickness, scored 11 points and handed out four assists.
Cam Jordan and Jacob Kent both came off the bench to score nine points as the Wildcats shot 54-percent from the field and hit 14-of-31 three-pointers.
Trigg also scored 52 points off 33 Clarksburg turnovers.
The Rockets (2-9) were playing without their leading scorer (ankle) and one other starter (sick) on Friday and got seven points from Bailee Webb.
The 75-point win was the largest for Trigg County since a 115-32 win over Providence in the 2006 All-A Classic Region Tournament. It marked the first time Trigg County has held an opponent under 20 points since a 55-19 win over Tolu in the 1949 region tournament.
Trigg County (5-4) will play in the Stewart County, TN Classic after Christmas against Cheatham County Central and Creek Wood.
