Hopkinsville dropped their first two games of the Fort Walton Beach Bash Sunday in Florida.
The Tigers dropped their opener 11-4 to Jeffersontown Sunday afternoon. The Chargers scored three runs in the first, five in the fourth, and three more in the fifth inning to build an 11-1 lead. Hoptown put together a brief rally in the seventh with three runs.
Jeffersontown (3-0) managed nine singles in the contest but took advantage of eight walks and two Hoptown errors.
Dalton Bearns had three hits and a double for Hoptown, while John Duvall added a double and two RBIs. Ryan Myers also had a pair of hits for the Tigers, who had seven hits on the day.
In the second game of the day, Nelson County (2-1) scored six runs in the first three innings and went on for a 6-2 win.
Freshman Zach Caudill pitched an effective game for the Tigers, giving up six hits and two earned runs in six innings with five strikeouts and two walks. He only threw 75 pitches in the contest.
Blake Balthrop had two of Hoptown’s four hits. Landon Snyder singled home Balthrop in the fifth inning for Hoptown’s first run and later scored on a passed ball.
Hopkinsville falls to 2-3 with the loss and is scheduled to play Union City, TN Monday afternoon in Crestview with temperatures in the low 80s.
