It took a while for Caldwell County to take the field for the 2018 softball season, and now they will be a hard team to get off the diamond on the losing end.
The Lady Tigers won their fifth straight game and second in as many nights over Dawson Springs with a 12-0 shutout Friday in Princeton.
Caldwell scored four times in the first inning, helped by two Dawson errors. Jaimee Burke and Peyton Young had RBI singles in the inning.
Madi Choate’s second double of the game plated a Caldwell run in the second inning for a 5-0 Lady Tiger lead.
Burke doubled home Emma Staples in the third, and Mashea Glover belted a grand slam over the centerfield fence for an 11-0 lead. The home run was Glover’s fifth in six games this season.
Choate finished with three doubles and an RBI for Caldwell, while Burke and Glover each had two hits.
Katie Franklin picked up the pitching win, allowing one hit and striking out three. Peyton Young also pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and fanning two.
Caldwell County (5-1) puts their winning streak on the line Tuesday when they travel to defending state champion Madisonville.
