For fans of 2nd Region baseball, it will hard to find a whole lot to complain about in this year’s draw for the state baseball tournament. On the other hand, be prepared for the “howls” coming out of Jefferson County, and the cries for seeding to begin.
The Kentucky High School Athletic Association conducted the draw Thursday morning for the 2018 Whitaker Bank/KHSAA State Baseball Tournament, which will be played beginning June 7 at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington.
For the 2nd Region, the champion will play the winner of Region 15, on June 8th. The time of the game will be announced later. The top teams in the 2nd Region, by number of wins, currently are Caldwell County, Henderson County, and Madisonville. The top teams in Region 15 are Lawrence County, Pike County Central, and Paintsville.
Louisville high school baseball fans will be unhappy with the pairings, as Region 6 and Region 7 are set for a first round matchup. That contest could be between St. Xavier and Pleasure Ridge Park, who are both ranked in the top five in the state.
