Trigg County snapped a three-match losing streak with a 2-0 (25-20, 25-23) win over Todd County Central Monday at Wildcat Gym.

Todd County started strong and finished strong, but it was their inconsistency in the middle that cost them the match. The Lady Rebels jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the first set behind the serving of Kinley Reding, who had three aces during the run.

Trigg County answered with a 13-2 run and never trailed the rest of the set. Skye Williamson and Jesse Siegmund each had a pair of aces, and Lexie Wright had three kills during the stretch.

Todd County tied the match at 17 before Trigg County finished with eight of the set’s final 11 points for the 25-20 win.

In the second set, it was Trigg County that jumped out to the quick lead. The Lady Wildcats got out to a 7-1 lead as Hannah McNichols served a pair of aces. Todd County rallied to draw to within 10-9 and trailed 14-12 before Trigg County scored nine straight for a 23-12 lead. Williamson had three aces for Trigg during a run they seemingly thought decided the match.

But Todd County Central still had something left in the tank as Reding served 11 straight points to tie the set at 23. She had three aces, and Lucy Chester had three kills during the run. Trigg County was able to force a side out and got the match point to win 25-23.

Reding finished the match with eight aces and a kill, while Chester had seven kills. Breanna Shumate added a pair of kills, and Brylee Shemwell had a kill and an ace for the Lady Rebels. Todd County falls to 1-7 on the season. Of their 25 sets played, 13 have been decided by five points or less. They have won just five of the 13. The Lady Rebels will host Logan County Tuesday in the 13th District matchup.

Wright had six kills and an ace for the Lady Wildcats, while Williamson had six aces. Iyanna Grubbs had three kills, and Janiah Boyd added two. Trigg County improves to 3-6 and will host Livingston Central in a Fifth District contest at Wildcat Gym Tuesday.
