Soccer fans wanting to see region favorites Henderson County and University Heights Academy meet in the championship of the Girls’ Second Region Soccer Tournament could get their wish as the teams drew in opposite brackets Friday.
The Lady Blazers (11-6) will open play in the tournament Monday at 5:30 at the Stadium of Champions in Hopkinsville. UHA won their third straight district tournament Thursday and have only lost to Henderson County and Madisonville within the region.
Webster County is back in the region tournament for the third straight year. The last time they played UHA was a 6-1 loss on Sept. 2, 2014.
Former district rivals Caldwell County (10-12) and Lyon County (12-3) meet Monday at 7:30. Lyon County, who has won a school-record 10 straight games, did not play Caldwell during the regular season.
Lyon and Caldwell have met just once in the last six seasons, with Caldwell owning an 11-match winning streak over the Lady Lyons dating back to 2006.
On Tuesday, Madisonville (15-2) will play Trigg County (5-13-1) at 5:30. The Lady Maroons own a six-game winning streak coming into the tourney, including a 6-1 win over Trigg County on Oct. 4.
Madisonville, who has never lost to Trigg County in girls’ soccer, hasn’t won a region tourney game since 2014 when they won the region title.
Three-time defending region champion Henderson County (15-2-1) plays Christian County (10-8-2) Tuesday at 7:30. During Henderson’s region title run, they have won 41 straight games against region teams.
Christian County, who last played Henderson County in 2014, last made a region tournament appearance in 2012.
The semifinals will be played Tuesday with the championship scheduled for Wednesday at 6:30 at the Stadium of Champions.
