Christian County will play one of the top teams in Arkansas Wednesday at the 31st Annual Poplar Bluff Basketball Showdown in Missouri. The Colonels are 8-1 and have won five straight games after winning the Baptist Health and Sports Rehab Holiday Classic at Webster County last week.
Christian County played without leading scorer Detorrion Ware (ankle) in their Saturday win over Todd County Central, but welcomed Eric Brody and JaQuon Long back to action after injury and sickness. Both scored in double figures in wins over Webster County and Todd County.
Ware, who averages 33.6 points a game, is expected to play this week with the Colonels in Missouri.
The Colonels will play Jonesboro, Arkansas Wednesday at 5:30. The Golden Hurricane (7-1) went 32-0 last year in winning the Arkansas Class 6A state title. Jonesboro features 6-2 senior point guard Desi Sills, who has signed to play at Arkansas. 6-0 guard Tony Hutson is listed as one of the top 10 players in Arkansas, while 6-5 junior Kyle Moore is one of the top juniors in Arkansas.
If the Colonels win Wednesday, they will play Thursday at 8:30. If they lose, they will play at 4:00. Their opponent will be either Humboldt, TN or Christian Brothers Prep (TN).
