A second week of the high school volleyball has shown us this much, that the 2nd Region tournament this season could be a very interesting affair. One new team joins the YSE 2nd Region “Super 7” this week, and there are some position changes. And, there well could be more by the time we get to next Tuesday
1 – Caldwell County (4-1) – The Lady Tigers had a solid trip to Louisville over the weekend. A win over #16 Presentation and a tough four-set loss to Holy Cross is enough, for now, to edge the Lady Tigers to the top of this week’s “Super 7.”
2 – Henderson County (3-4) – The Lady Colonels barely hold on for the #2 spot this week. With some key players missing, Henderson County went 2-3 at the Apollo Summer Slam, including a straight set loss to UHA. The missing players are the only thing that kept the Lady Colonels from falling further.
3 – UHA (7-2) – The Lady Blazers have been impressive to start the season. The win over Henderson County and their strong start combine to be reason enough to move the Lady Blazers into the #3 spot. A big showdown looms Thursday with 8th District rival Hopkinsville
4 – Hopkinsville (1-1) – A tough four set loss to Henderson County and a sweep of Fort Campbell is the only action so far for the Lady Tigers. We find out much more Thursday, when they take on UHA.
5 – Crittenden County (7-0) – The Lady Rockets have the best record in the region at 7-0. The question becomes how much record is a product of schedule. The win that moves them into the Super 7 is their five set victory over Madisonville.
6 – Madisonville (4-4) – The Lady Maroons are a big of an enigma here early in the 2018 season. Thought they would be one of the darkhorses in the region, but they have not played like it out of the gate. Still a “wait and see” on this team.
7 – Christian County (2-6) – The Lady Colonels played UHA tough in a three set loss, took a set from Caldwell County, and won their last two at the Apollo Summer Slam. This appears to be a team that could be higher up the list by the end of the season if they keep progressing.
