After a week that saw only two matches played between teams in last week’s girls’ soccer Super 7, the rankings remain unchanged. With big matches coming up over the next week, things could be clearer soon.
1. Henderson County (7-1-1) -The Lady Colonels keep a tight hold on the top spot even after suffering their first loss of the season 3-1 at Castle, IN. They also notched an impressive 2-0 win at Daviess County. This week will see challenges from three 2nd Region teams, as the Lady Colonels welcome Hopkinsville, Christian County and Webster County to Colonel Field.
2. University Heights Academy (4-0) -The Lady Blazers returned from their school trip with a 6-2 win over Ohio County on Tuesday. A brutal week awaits, with a trip to Bowling Green, a visit from McCracken County, and a home match-up with 8th District rivals Hopkinsville. Possibly foremost on the Lady Blazers’ minds is a Monday road meeting with Murray High in the All-A Sectional.
3. Madisonville-North Hopkins (7-1) -The Lady Maroons enjoyed a successful week, topping Caldwell County 7-0 and beating Marshall County 3-1. The win over Marshall was the second-biggest upset of the week throughout Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio according to the Maher Rankings. They have a meeting coming up this week with fellow Super 7 squad Fort Campbell.
4. Hopkins County Central (4-1) -The Lady Storm have only played five matches, but do hold a 5-2 win over Fort Campbell and three other victories over 2nd Region competition. Last week saw them beat Union County 4-0, and their only match this week will also be against the Lady Braves. It will remain difficult to gauge just how good the Lady Storm are, as they don’t play another Super 7 team until a trip to Princeton to face Caldwell County on September 27.
5. Caldwell County (4-6) -The Lady Tigers hold their spot again this week in spite of two lopsided losses. They dropped two road contests, 7-1 to Graves County and 7-0 to Madisonville-North Hopkins. Matches against Owensboro and Christian County are on the schedule this week, but the Lady Tigers will have a chance to make a statement when they take the field against UHA and Fort Campbell over a three-day span in a couple of weeks.
6. Hopkinsville (3-4) -Hoptown only played once since the last rankings, a 4-0 setback at home to Marshall County. The Lady Tigers have only played one match against 2nd Region teams, a 4-2 season-opening win over Trigg County. However, this week could be pivotal for them, as they face the top two teams in the Super 7, Henderson County and UHA. The Lady Tigers could shoot up the rankings with strong performances, or still be looking for answers this time next week.
7. Fort Campbell (4-2) -The Lady Falcons shutout Trigg County 1-0 on the road and rolled past Paducah Tilghman 7-2 last week. Up next is a huge match-up with Madisonville-North Hopkins on post on Thursday, followed by a trip to South Warren and a visit from 8th District foes Christian County. The Lady Falcons schedule over the second half of the season is littered with matches against 2nd Region competition, so multiple chances remain to move up the rankings.
