Hoptown Outlasts Christian County in 5 Set Epic

The Lady Colonels got the night off to a positive start, taking an early 5-1 lead. Holding a 14-12 lead, Christian County ripped off six in a row to extend the lead to 20-12. The Lady Colonels then held Hoptown off to take the set 25-21, and go up 1-0 in the match.

In the second set, Hopkinsville used an early run to gain control. Leading 3-2, the Lady Tigers scored five unanswered to take an 8-2 lead. Christian County battled back to tie the set at 12-12. With the score 17-15, Hopkinsville scored 4 straight to go up 21-15. The Lady Tigers went on to close out the set 25-18, and even the match at one set each.

The 3rd set saw the Lady Colonels and Lady Tigers duel their way through a classic. The two teams went back and forth with neither team able to get control of the set. Christian County appeared to have the set put away up 24-20, only to see Hopkinsville rally to tie it at 24-24. With the set tied 25-25, the Lady Colonels were able to score two straight points to take the set 27-25, and take a 2-1 lead in the set.

With their backs against the wall, the Lady Tigers fought their way to a win in the 4th set. The set was tight throughout, with Hopkinsville finally winning 25-22 to even the match at 2 sets each, and set up a deciding 5th set.

In the final set, Hopkinsville took an early three point lead at 7-4. The Lady Tigers then made that lead stand up, taking the final set 15-11, and completing their comeback to take the match 3-2.

The win was the 3rd in a row for Hoptown, and their second over Christian County in the past week. The Lady Tigers improve to 7-9 overall, and 4-2 in district play, and lock up the #2 seed for the 8th District tournament.

Christian County falls to 8-14 overall, and 2-3 in 8th District play. The Lady Colonels will be the #3 seed in the district tournament, which means the two teams will play in the district semifinals with a berth in the regional tournament on the line.
