Adam Gillham surpassed his season scoring total in one game as the Henderson County senior tallied a hat trick to send Henderson County past Christian County 4-0 Tuesday in the region boys’ soccer quarterfinals.
The win was the ninth straight in the first round of the region tournament by Henderson County since the 2011 alignment change by the KHSAA.
Gillham’s first goal came in the seventh minute to put the northern Colonels on the board.
Henderson County added another goal 10 minutes later when Christian County goalie Josh Settle moved up the field to take a free kick. Henderson got possession and moved the ball down the field to Ashton Todd who barely beat Settle back to the goal and poked it in for a 2-0 lead.
Gillham added his second goal just before halftime. He completed the hat trick with 10 minutes left in the game for the final 4-0 margin. He entered Tuesday’s game with two goals on the season.
Henderson County had a considerable shot advantage in the contest with Settle making 14 saves. Henderson had won the previous four matchups with Christian County by 10-0 mercy rule scores.
Christian County’s season ends with a record of 1-11. Henderson County [6-2] moves into Wednesday’s semifinals where they will play Hopkins County Central, who beat Trigg County 3-2 for the program’s first-ever region tourney win.
