Hopkinsville High School is turning to its former girls’ coach to take over the leadership of the boys’ basketball program. Officials announced Thursday morning that Anthony Babb, who stepped down as head coach of the Lady Tigers back in May, had been selected as the new coach for the Tigers.

Babb, who has been a part of Hopkinsville High School basketball for 16 years, served as Lady Tiger head coach for the prior six seasons, compiling a 98-73 record. His teams won 20 or more games in his first three seasons. Hoptown won three district titles and advanced to the region tournament semifinals three times.

Before taking over as Hoptown girls’ coach, he was an assistant coach with the Tigers for ten years.

Babb was a standout basketball player at Christian County High School and is a member of the school’s athletic hall of fame.

Babb replaces Larry Miller, who stepped down in May to take over as the new head boys’ basketball coach at Evangel Christian in Louisville. Babb was named the interim head coach in the wake of Miller’s departure.

In a statement, Babb said he was excited to have the opportunity, and that they were “ready to get to work and get better every day.”
