Trigg County did almost everything right Tuesday except hit free throws, and it cost them in a 62-59 loss to Paducah Tilghman at Wildcat Gym.

The Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 13-5 first quarter lead and extended it to 31-22 by halftime. Tilghman cut the deficit to 40-38 heading into the fourth quarter and clinched the game with an 11-of-14 effort at the free throw line in the final frame.

Meanwhile, Trigg County was 13-of-34 (38%) at charity stripe, including 3-of-10 in the second half. Tilghman’s precision at the line in the fourth quarter saw them end up 17-of-31 at the free throw line.

The Lady Wildcats stayed in the game thanks to eight 3-pointers. Katelyn Slone had four of them and finished with 17 points in addition to a 3-of-3 night at the line.

Rylee Bush, Trigg County’s leading free throw shooter last year, hit both of her attempts and finished with 11 points. Bethany Stallons knocked down three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points.

Eighth grader Destiny Thomas and eighth grader Diamond Gray led Tilghman with 16 points apiece. Eleese Anderson added 14 points.

If the Lady Wildcats can take some solace from their defeat, it’s this – they only reached 59 points twice in 26 games last year.

Trigg County will try and bounce back Friday when they host Crittenden County at Wildcat Gym.
