A tough trip south of the “border” Monday afternoon for the Heritage Christian Academy Warriors. Franklin Road limited the Warriors to single runs in the fourth and sixth innings as HCA fell 10-2.
Franklin Road converted a pair of first-inning singles to get an early run and take a 1-0 lead after the opening inning. That lead would grow in the bottom of the third inning when Franklin Road’s bats got to HCA pitching for five hits in the hitting, pushing the lead out to 4-0.
The Warriors got on the board in the top of the fourth inning when Grant Floyd singled to score David Jent, cutting the lead to 4-1.
Taking advantage of two walks and a hit batter in the bottom of the fifth, Franklin Road got that run back and added one more to push the lead out to 6-1.
HCA struck back in the top of the sixth inning. David Jent doubled to left field, driving in Trenton Hayes to trim the lead to 6-2.
Franklin Road, however, put the game on ice in the bottom half of the inning, using five walks and an HCA error to plate four runs and move the lead out to the final margin of 10-2.
Trenton Hayes, David Jent, Walker Ashby, and Grant Floyd all had hits for the Warriors, who scored their two runs on a total of four hits in the game. Jent and Floyd had RBIs.
Franklin Road scored their ten runs on a total of ten hits.
Trenton Hayes got the start on the mound for Heritage Christian. He went 5-innings, giving up six runs on nine hits, striking out nine, while walking three.
