Martin’s Wins Help Trigg to 5th Place Team Finish at Area 1

Jaquellus Martin had a pair of photo finishes to win two events and help Trigg County finish seventh in a loaded field at the Area 1 Championships Saturday at Calloway County.

Both times, Martin edged Henderson County’s Jaheim Williams. In the 100-meters, it was by .05 seconds. In the 200-meters, it was by a mere .01 seconds.

Martin won the 100-meters in 11.02 seconds. Only Al Baker has run a faster electronically timed 100 meters in school history.

Martin’s day was part of five individual top-5 finishes in the event, which brings together some of the best western Kentucky teams regardless of size.

Trigg County finished nine points behind sixth University Heights Academy.  Marshall County won with 100 points, while Paducah Tilghman was second with 87 points.
