Cathryn Brown had her sights set on winning the girls’ state golf tournament this week in Bowling Green. The main reason? She wanted to win the state title as a junior — just as her brother Cullan did in 2016.
Her putter had other plans. The Lyon County junior followed her first-day score of 73 with a 74. She finished in third place, six shots behind the winner Macie Brown of Bullitt East.
Brown bombed tee shots off the box all day at the Bowling Green Country Club. However, the mid-range putts just didn’t fall for her. She shot 1-over on each side of the course with three birdies on the day.
Her finish continued her improvement at the state tournament since her 12th place finish as a freshman. She tied for seventh place last year.
Brown played in the lead group Wednesday with this year’s winner, last year’s winner Macey Brown of Apollo, and Madison Borders of Thomas Nelson who finished tied for fourth place.
