Lady Falcons Roll Over Fulton City

After not posting a hit in their first two outings, the Fort Campbell softball team erupted for an 18-8 victory over visiting Fulton City on Saturday.  The Lady Falcons took advantage of wild Lady Bulldog pitching to draw seventeen walks, while only striking out five times.

Fort Campbell jumped all over the Lady Bulldogs from the outset, taking an 8-0 lead after the first inning.  Fulton City cut the deficit in half with 4 runs in the second, but the Lady Falcons blew it open with 6 in their half of the third to take a 14-4 lead.

Both offenses slowed down in the second half of the game, with the Lady Bulldogs trimming a run off the margin with 3 runs in the fourth to Fort Campbell’s 2.  A run in the top of the fifth cut the Lady Falcons’ lead to 16-8, but with two outs the Lady Falcons scored their second of the inning to end the game at 18-8.

7th Grader Lizette Ceja got the win for the Lady Falcons, going the distance while allowing nine hits and 8 runs, 7 earned, along with five strikeouts and eight walks.  Freshman Jada Martin took the loss for the Lady Bulldogs, giving up 18 runs on eight hits over 4.2 innings.  Martin walked seventeen and struck out five.

Ceja knocked in 3 runs, going 2-4 with a walk to lead Fort Campbell.  8th grader Hallie Zieg and junior Victoria Dominguez both had 2 RBI and drew three walks, with Zieg crossing the plate twice.  Sophomore Zoe Loveall finished 3-5 with an RBI and 2 runs scored, and senior Sara Silva had two hits and 3 runs scored, driving in 1.  Sophomore Cadie Suding scored 3 times, while drawing two walks and collecting a base hit.

Fort Campbell begins 8th District play on Tuesday with a trip to Hopkinsville to face the 0-3 Lady Tigers.
