Lilly Strader scored twice and Kate Cansler assisted on two others as University Heights Academy opened the season with a 4-2 win at Calloway County Monday. Strader scored 10 minutes into the contest before Calloway added the tying goal from sophomore Elle Carson three minutes later.
Cansler assisted on a goal to Alex Juckett who found the back of the net to give the Lady Blazers a 2-1 lead 23 minutes in. Cansler later fed Strader for her second goal to put UHA up 3-1 at halftime.
Cansler got in on the scoring fun early in the second half to extend the Lady Blazer lead to 4-1. Calloway added a goal inside the game’s final three minutes when Anna Hill found Carson for her second goal and the final margin.
Freshman Karrigan Rogers added an assist for UHA, who got a strong game in net from Lainey Burman. She saved 14 shots, including a penalty kick.
It’s only the third time in the last 17 years the schools have met, with UHA going 2-0-1 in that time.
The Lady Blazers (1-0) will play Fort Campbell Tuesday in the All-A Classic Second Region Tournament.
