Tigers Continue District Streak with 5-0 Win Over UHA

If there was expectation of a Hopkinsville letdown after winning four straight district soccer titles, Tyler Greenwell put that notion to rest with two first half goals in the Tigers’ 5-0 win over University Heights Academy in the 8th District championship game at Fort Campbell Thursday. The district title was the fifth straight and eighth in the last nine years for the Tiger program.

Greenwell scored on a header off a Zach Moore pass 13 minutes in to give the Tigers the early lead. UHA appeared to tie the match in the 31st minute when Will Bryan headed in a free kick. However, the Blazers were called for an offsides penalty that negated the tying goal.

Hopkinsville took advantage when Greenwell scored his second goal off a Welby Horn pass a minute later for a 2-0 Tiger lead.

The backbreaker came just two minutes later when Ryan Roussel got free and scooted a shot into the net for a three-goal Hoptown lead.

The Hopkinsville defense did their job throughout, taking away UHA attempts to get breakaways for goals. The Tiger tacked on two goals in the second half from Moore and Jose Favela to round out the scoring.

Both Hopkinsville (14-6-2) and UHA (12-5-1) will advance to next week’s region tournament at Madisonville. Hopkinsville will play either Lyon County (2-17-1), Webster County (6-7), or Hopkins County Central (7-12-1). UHA will open with either Trigg County (12-5-1), Henderson County (10-6-4), or Madisonville (13-5-4). The teams find out their draw Friday morning.
